James W. Freeman

Private Advisor, Senior Vice President

James Freeman is a Private Advisor and Senior Vice President at Variant Path Group within the Rockefeller Global Family Office. James began his financial services career in the early 1980s and realized that the industry was poised for a change. He had a passion for capital markets and greatly enjoyed talking about stocks and bonds with his clients, but he also realized that wealthy families faced challenges beyond their investment portfolios.

James takes pride in the team’s ability to provide clients with guidance that touches every aspect of their financial lives, helping to solve even their most complex financial dilemmas and identify issues of which they might not be aware. James plays a key role in maintaining the team’s proprietary investment models that incorporate both fundamental and technical analysis.

A native Virginian, James came to Charlotte after graduating from the University of Virginia with a BS in Commerce and a concentration in Accounting. He started his career at Wachovia Bank and joined Rockefeller in 2024 after spending 41 years with Morgan Stanley and predecessor firms. Outside the office, he has been an active member of the community, coaching youth when his children were younger and serving on the Board of Trustees at Providence Day School and Jacobs Ladder Job Center. He and his wife Davia continue to reside in Charlotte.
